On June 6 in Lower Bull Street, diggers will break ground starting the one-mile 'Eastside' extension of the West Midlands Metro from the City centre to Digbeth.
The latest development comes soon after the confirmation of a new funding of £15 million towards a revamp of the Digbeth high Street.
The tram will not only be a part of Digbeth's transformation with the train linking it to the main transport network but this will create jobs locally, a particularly important factor at such a critical time.
Work will begin with the completion of the remaining utility upgrades and diversions, Lower Bull Street will close to all vehicular traffic during the construction.
However, pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times and buses serving Lower Bull Street will be diverted to additional stops nearby.
The £227 million extension will include four stops, one of these being HS2, with more than half of this route planned to be free of overhead wires.
Albert Street, Meriden Street and High Street near the custard factory and coach station will be the other stops for this particular line.
As they move forward with this project, the Summer will see work carried out connecting new tracks with existing lines.
Metro services are set to return to their regular terminus by Autumn 2021, the work in Lower Bull Street will be completed by spring 2022.
The overall Eastside extension is due to open in 2025.
